International Recreational and Open Water Rowing Association, IROW, was created in September of 2006 in recognition of increasing demand for an owner’s association among the owners of shells other than Alden. IROW recognizes a number of manufacturers of open water and recreational shells, and welcomes all owners of rowing shells to its membership.  IROW is 400+ members strong and sponsors a variety of local and national recreational and open water competitions, including the Isles of Shoals ocean race and the Ernestine Bayer Race on the Charles. We also sponsor rowing events such as the IROW National Rowing Festival on alternating years with IROW Rowing Tours. The Festival is designed as a family weekend event and is as much for family members who do not row as it is for the competitors. Other smaller events and tours take place throughout the year, details at IROW. The Alden Ocean Shell Organization (AOSA) is growing, welcoming all recreational rowers and becoming IROW, the International Recreational and Open Water Rowing Association.
